If you want mature sex scenes in a nice novel form read Radclyffe or Gerri Hill who both write at the top of the curve for Lesbian romance with a plot writing, Schubach does give you the G-rated Lesbian romance novel with a nice sci-fi plot with a little mythology thrown in for good measure. Honestly I truly enjoyed both novels and I can't wait to find time for the 3rd and 4th in the series. I have also been enjoying the audio books format as well. Bloodlines is an intelligent, fast paced, thriller/adventure story, with Vikings (Asgard) using advanced technology in their fight against the violent and brutal Ragnarok. I found the story riveting, from it's tense whodunnit mystery to it's blazing action sequences. It is in every way, superior to it's predecessor. The narration is also first class. I look forward to book three with great anticipation.
I thought this was a good follow up to an interesting spin on norse mythology. The story is excellent with a lot of focus on character development. Some insight into the Ragnarok was a nice touch. The only thing I wasnt fond of was when the author switched perspectives it wasnt always clear who the character was.
I love the characters of the Valkyrie Chronicles series, and I love the family they're building. This book goes a long way toward showing how they fit into the larger context of the Asgard and human worlds. Also, the author has taken the time to turn the 'evil aliens' into real, if often abusive, people. Big thumbs up for that.
The only somewhat negative thing I have to say is that the book could benefit from having had a copy editor to catch things like misplaced punctuation and switching between tenses. These problems aren't as common as they were in the previous book of the series, but are still a bit distracting. Aside from that, this is a very good book, and I enjoyed it a lot.
Bloodlines was a great read I hope there will be more to come from the Valkyrie. My only problem was wish it was longer. As great of a writer Erik is I think fans would love a longer Valkyrie Chronicles. I mean really there are writers the put out 300 and 500 page books and they lose you about half way through but I think Erik could pull it off and fans may agree. So I say its a must read and if you haven't read the first book in this chronicle you need to hop on it.
The battle won but the war is not over. In this the second book we are brought into contact with another Norse God, Loki. Loki a cousin of Kara, on the verge of insanity, sets in motion the next battle between good and evil, while almost destroying the Valkyries home - Citadel. In a parallel story, we are also introduced to another new character, an outcase Ragnarok young woman. A new love story begins between Arina and Ina the new Ragnarok. This brings a new dimension and understanding as we get exposed to the Ragnarok culture. What a wonderful series, i cannot wait to read the next book.
Another AMAZING book by Erik Schubach! Full of action from beginning to end; I love that this book fills in some of the back story of the previous book. We get to see more of Asgard, which I LOVED!! I loved the addition of Ina; I was a bit skeptical at first, but I ended up feeling compassion for her! She was just a poor girl that lead a horrible life and whether she realized it or not, coming down to Earth and begging to be killed was the best thing that ever happened for her. Arina is the perfect compliment to her and is the essence of Asgard and makes an amazing Valkyrie! It is fitting that she doesn't form a weapon but an impenetrable shield.
I love these books! They are the perfect balance of action, romance, and humor!
By the way, I loved that Ina was made Valkyrie the same way as Kate and Arina! )
Can't wait for the next one!
The Valkyrie Chronicles by Erik Schubach took me by surprise. I was kind of looking forward to a cool sci-fi/tantasy story based on the blurb for the books but I found a series that really made me sit up and pay attention. What an awesome series. The characters are fantastic, individual and strong. Along the lines of Lessa of Pern and Honor Harrington these women rock! The stories are an emotional rollercoaster ride and have you laughting and crying and wanting to be part of this wonderful world. I hate to see each story end as I want them to just continue on as I can't get enough of their stories. I'm truly looking forward to seeing more.
Erik's books, all of them, are really a joy to read and are quickly becoming some of my favorites to keep going back to read and read again just because I so enjoy the "feel good" characters and stories.
